But do we really need to read to a baby that isn't even a year old yet? In a nutshell? Yes.
Did you know that by the time a baby reaches their first birthday they will have learned all the sounds needed to speak their native language (according to kidshealth.org).
Not only is it an optimal bonding experience, but reading out loud will give your baby the following benefits:
- teaches a baby about communication
- introduces concepts such as numbers, letters, colors, and shapes in a fun way
- builds listening, memory, and vocabulary skills
- gives babies information about the world around them
You should start reading from birth to one year and continue beyond.
Do you guys read to your children? What's their favorite book?
